Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited Review

26 10 2009

Intro: Dungeons and Dragons Online (or DDO) was originally released as a “Pay to Play” MMORPG, to be honest I never heard about it until recently when it turned Free 2 Play! This game is very good, and unique. Oh yeah, this time I’m using my own screenshots!

The graphics on this game are good, and I mean good, seriously, there are extremely detailed models in this game, they’re excellent, they can make it lag a bit though.

Sound/Music: The music for this game is good, its kind of what you’d expect from Lord of the Rings or D&D, a bit cliche, but good nonetheless. The great thing about this game is that almost all the characters have their own voice! Seriously, you talk to them and so do they! Its excellent. When you go into instances, there is a ‘Dungeon Master’ narrating a little bit, its really cool.

Gameplay: The gameplay, the best part of this. The game starts with character creation, where you can choose a type of gameplay (Melee, Magic or Specialized), a path for these, a class, a race, then a name (Which is first and last). You can’t make any attractive characters though.

You want my character ladies? No... neither would I.

You want my character ladies? No... neither would I.

You start the game with a short, instanced tutorial, where you go into a cave and battle some evil creatures, pretty normal, pretty easy. Then when you’re done you go to a town and do different quests, which all have their own little instance might I add, you can even solve puzzles in some.

Ever played "Connect the Pipes"? Well, this puzzle is the same.

Ever played "Connect the Pipes"? Well, this puzzle is the same.

You have to defeat different things, like in one you defeat a frog monster and smash a coffin in, a little random but still fun. The leveling system is a very unique one, due to the small level limit of 20. Every time you level up you gain a ‘level rank’, I believe there are 5 of them for each level, so after “Level 1 – Rank 5″ you become “Level 2 – Rank 1″ and so on, it works well and puts a lot more length into the game.

Overall: This is one of the gems of F2P MMO Gaming, its pretty much a must try MMO, and if you really love it, you can pay an optional subscription fee.

Runes of Magic Review

22 10 2009

Intro: It’s time… I guess, for another review, no, I’m not good at making things sound dramatic, anyway, lets get on.
Runes of Magic is an MMO made by Frogster… the non-criticism company…

Graphics: runes-of-magic-1You guessed it… the graphics are like World of Warcraft, except they are slightly more ‘realistic’… sounds strange but I’ll explain. In character creation (read on) you can choose lots of features, and these features really do show while you play, they are very, very…dare I say it? Okay… good.

Music/Sound: Music… I have one word… actually ‘GOOD’, once again, its a well orchestrated ‘soundtrack’. The sound effects are okay too, theres a little bit of voice acting and “RAWRS” from the monsters, but nothing to go crazy over…

Gameplay:

*Writes while singing "I love Google Images"*

*Writes while singing "I love Google Images"*

On to the more… to be quite honest, dissapointing part. The game starts with character creation, with which you can choose (currently) two races, the Human and the Elf, the Humans look like traditional humans (well… yeah.) and the elves look like traditional elves. You can choose from several classes, all the obvious ones… name them…

Can you name them? Post in the comments!

Can you name them? Post in the comments!

…yeah. The game starts in racial starter areas, the humans have the usual, wooden village and the elves have lush, detailed forests (MMO Erotica?).  They’ve the usual creatures, from mushrooms to wolves, this won’t leave you lying on the floor in amazement… I feel. All of the classes have some starter skills, which can kill creatures relatively easy… but its too easy, and a bit annoying. You can eventually go to different zones through the use of blimp-like vehicles (WoW Reference…), which are a bit better, but not really better.

Overall: While this game can keep you playing for a while, and has many strong references to World of Warcraft… it just can’t always keep you playing.

GodsWar Review

12 09 2009

Because of the fact that I can’t seem to video record this, I am going to do a written review of GodsWar Online, enjoy.

GodsWar Logo, spiffy

GodsWar Logo, spiffy

This is what I consider to be the ultimate Runescape alternative, yes its GodsWar, made by and probably published by a company name IGG. This is an MMO based on Greek Mythology, there are all sorts of bosses, quests and characters that tie into the greek mythology that you (may) have read.

Character customization in this game is nothing special, seriously, its as bad as Fiesta (soon), there are few combinations of hair and face (thats all you can customize, and you pick from pre-made faces). There are four classes to choose from, the Warrior, Champion, Mage and Priest, which is pretty much the same in all MMO’s (I assume the Champion is some sort of Death Knight or Paladin).

The music isn’t bad, its classical music with a quite serious tone, overall, not bad.

The gameplay is a bit odd, the starter quests are just randomly walking around and talking to people, and by the time you’ve done them you’ll be level 2-3. You level up so quickly in this game, that I wouldn’t be surprised if the level cap was 1,000. Now, for botters and cheaters, they don’t need you, why? This game supports botting, thats right, leave this game on overnight and you’ll probably be the maximum level, and if I’m correct it even does quests for you!

Overall if you liked Runescape but want to find an 100% free alternative, GodsWar is the game for you.

4Story Review

3 09 2009

Oh how I usually hate the smell of a free MMO in the morning… but this one seems to have put its deoderant on!

Not a bad logo... hmm...

Not a bad logo... hmm...

Thats right it’s 4story, or Gates of Andaron for all you devious foreigners, I have no idea what the company name is so I will put a link right here;               http://global.4story.com/ Anyway… on with the review.

Graphics:

I found this on Google Images, do I get a prize?

I found this on Google Images, do I get a prize?

Now if you can see, the graphics in this game are really the same as any other free MMORPG, strangley cartoony, bares a resemblence to… never mind. So nah, not really a big fan of the graphics.

Sound: I have one word for the music & sound effects: rubbish, to put it simply.

Gameplay: Let me just show you an image

4WoW or WoWstory?, hmm.

4WoW or WoWstory?, hmm.

Thats right, this game is another WoW clone, I’m sick of these, can’t game developers come up with their own ideas? Right, you can move in a point and click fashion or you can use the arrow keys, the interface and gameplay are similar to WoW so I don’t really need to explai… what? You haven’t played WoW?! How dare you call yourself an MMO gamer. Alright, I’ll explain. The basic interface is a portrait of your character at the top left corner of the screen, along with your health and mana (or something else)

Anyway, if you compare the two photos even more, you can see that the skills are always at the bottom of the screen, this seems to be a rule with MMO’s nowadays, ah well. The quest system is the same as WoW (Google it, I mean seriously now)

Overall if you’re looking for an alternative to WoW and can’t download 3.6g or so to get Runes of Magic (Review in next 6685684658 years), get this.

Enjoy :P and also, sorry about the audio. I didn’t have time to write a script either, so don’t blame me if I contradict myself
